And we’re off! CSA season is officially underway and we hit our goal of having 10 individuals and/or families join us this year! Thank you for your support and helping us get the word out. We have had a slower start to spring with the cooler temperatures and lots of rain, but the garden is coming to life with lots of beautiful greens, herbs, and peas, with much more on the way. We have been blessed to have some work groups help us stay on top of weeding and other projects, like tying up tomato and pea trellis, tilling, tree trimming, etc. A special shout out to Christ United Methodist Church and a COTC small group for giving up part of their weekend to be with us and make our space look awesome! We have spent a majority of May transplanting everything from the greenhouse into the ground as well as doing a ton of direct seeding. Weeding and keeping out invasive grass requires a lot of our attention, as well as continuing to mulch around crops that go into the ground as a weed preventative. We’ve been drying large amounts of herbs to continue packaging our own teas and are finding creative ways to use abundance up. This month we made homemade herbed pasta from scratch, we are infusing sugar with mint, and are working on a new recipe to make our own power green powder which acts as a highly nutritious supplement to add to food and drinks. It’s wonderful to see our trainee’s pride in all of their hard work that they put in during our offseason as the soil they mixed, the seeds they started, and SO many hours of mulching pay-off. There is a sense of accomplishment and awe when they are able to see a tiny seed turn into a harvestable crop that we package each week for our CSA members. It nourishes us too.
