This Month in Vocational Lessons, July 2025

The Center for Living and Learning’s vocational trainees are learning about resume development and practicing interview skills in this month’s vocational lessons. They have the opportunity to schedule one on one meetings with staff to further craft their individual resumes. They are also learning about hygiene and professional attire and how these help us present ourselves in a manner that conveys competence and respect in the workplace. The trainees started a new unit in mental health lessons focused on interpersonal effectiveness. We’ve discussed the importance of human connection and shared unique challenges that come with relationships. During this unit trainees will practice social skills in order to build new relationships and maintain existing ones.

With so much to harvest in our garden right now, we are taking full advantage of fresh kale, basil, green onion and garlic to make kale chips with basil aioli in cooking group. In art group, the trainees are making ceramic salt and pepper shakers in the shape of pigs. And in reading group, they are discussing foreshadowing in the context of W.W. Jacobs’ “The Monkey’s Paw.”
