This Winter in Vocational Lessons, February 2026

In vocational lessons, the trainees are learning about respectful teamwork and how this means listening to others, thinking before acting, and making choices that support both the group and individual dignity. Through our Decision Making lessons, the trainees are learning about how the D.E.C.I.D.E. Model helps teams define problems, explore options, consider consequences, choose based on values, decide together, and evaluate results for continuous improvement. In mental health lessons, the vocational trainees are learning about radical acceptance and fully acknowledging and accepting reality, including painful or unwanted situations, without judgment or resistance. They are practicing accepting reality, which gives them energy and space to process it in a healthy way and reduce their pain.

The trainees have been baking up cozy treats this winter in cooking group, including different types of cookies and breads. In art group, they have been preparing for spring by making ceramic garden stakes to label herb plantings.

The creative reading group has been exploring the world of poetry and lyrical composition by studying the history of Auld Lang Syne, the writings of Langston Hughes, and the creative movement of the Harlem Renaissance. Inspired by these works, the group has written songs together, and each participant has been motivated to create their own poetry.
