This month in their vocational lessons, the Center for Living and Learning’s trainees are learning about workplace etiquette and understanding accepted and expected standards of behavior in a professional setting. They are exploring how this helps promote respect, communication and professionalism in the workplace. In mental health lessons, we are discussing the importance of interpersonal effectiveness in all aspects of our lives. Trainees have enjoyed practicing interpersonal skills through various group activities.
With a bountiful crop of huckleberries in our garden this year, the vocational trainees have been making huckleberry crisp in cooking group, literally enjoying the fruits of their labor. In art group, they are enhancing their creativity and promoting relaxation and mindfulness via watercolor painting. And in reading group, they are exploring character development and theme’s in Liliana Hecker’s short story Every Person’s Little Treasure.
